10. November 2023
After the representatives of the European Council of Ministers and the European Parliament reached a political agreement on the establishment of a European Single Access Point for financial and sustainability-related company information (ESAP) in May 2023, ESAP was adopted by the European Parliament at first reading on 9 November 2023.
The provisional political agreement still needs to be adopted by the Council of the European Union before the ESAP legislation can be officially published in the Official Journal of the EU.
Background: The European Commission published a legislative proposal on the ESAP in November 2021. On 23 May 2023, a provisional political agreement was reached during the trilogue negotiations. ESAP will serve as a central access point for company data and will be operated by ESMA. The ESAP legislation comprises an EU regulation establishing the ESAP as well as an amending regulation and an amending directive to amend the numerous EU legislative acts in which the information subject to disclosure is located.
ESAP should be available from summer 2027. The information to be made available via ESAP is to be gradually included over a period of four years. The objective is to make sustainability information available at an early stage to support the objectives of the European Green Deal.
The ASCG is following developments on the ESAP and has published a briefing paper on the legislative proposal. Further information can be found on the ASCG project page.
